Wideband Corrugated Feedhorns, for Radar, Communications, Radiometry and Quasi-Optics

A wide variety of desirable antenna beam patterns can be synthesized by optimal excitation and phasing the HE11 HE12 modes in scalar corrugated feedhorns. However, bandwidth such two-mode horns is often limited modal dispersion. In this paper we introduce a class low dispersion, feedhorns that operate, some cases, over operating bandwidths 40-50%. We provide example designs include with high coupling efficiency to: 1) pure mode for single-mode pipe transmission lines; 2) LG00 LG02 combination radiometry, narrow beams; 3) Laguerre Gaussian quasi-optical instrumentation constant phase centers; 4) gain uniform illumination frequency; 5) Airy or “top hat” radar communications applications, designed to maximize aperture efficiencies when used larger reflect lens antennas. More generally, show methods generate multiple HE1n modes, synthesize symmetric output beams at any desired frequency gain.
